SYW ARCHITECTURE& LANDSCAPE DESIGN INC.

SYW Architecture & Landscape Design INC. was established in 2003, formerly known as the Building Environment Research Office of Zhejiang Architectural Science Design and Research Institute. SYW Architecture & Landscape Design Inc. is the most professional aquarium design company in China, with its main business including the design of aquariums, ocean parks, museums, urban complexes, and theme parks with biological and ecological themes. It is also the only professional aquarium design company in the Eastern Hemisphere that fully possesses international first-class overall design capabilities in fields such as planning and design, architectural design, landscape design, exhibition design, and life support system design for aquariums.

Headquartered in Hangzhou, it has a branch office in Hamburg, Germany, and has become a new generation of international professional design teams for aquariums and ocean parks in the 21st century. In recent years, it has developed a new generation of ecological-themed popular science tourism projects, led the overall experience display of ecology, innovated the isolated display mode of biological species used in older-generation aquariums and zoos, and has become a pioneer in the R&D, construction, and operation of international ecological overall popular science tourism projects. It is the main initiator of the International Group of Ecozoo & Ecorium.

We are an international team that pioneers a new generation of eco-themed popular science tourism projects. Headquartered in Hangzhou, China, we have pioneered the overall exhibition and experience of ecology, completely innovated the isolated exhibition of biological species in places such as zoos, botanical gardens, aquariums, and cultural parks, and have become a pioneer in the development, construction, and operation of international ecological popular science tourism projects.

We are mainly engaged in the research, planning, design, construction, and operation of new-generation ecological and biological themed tourism projects, including ecoriums, ecological zoos, and ecological parks. We integrate traditional isolated parks such as botanical gardens, zoos, aquariums, and cultural parks into a cohesive whole, creating a vibrant, complete ecosystem that is self-sustained through ecological balance. This new type of park and venue has extremely low operating costs, causes no pollution, is more elegant and attractive, will gain popularity worldwide, and will disseminate ecological concepts.

ECORIUM

Pioneering the display of whole ecosystem.

ECORIUM was originally a conceptual work created by us to promote ecological concepts (starting in 1995). Initially, we referred to it as an “ecological tank,” but later even the water grass tanks in flower and bird markets were also called ecological tanks, so we renamed it “ecological furniture.” However, later on, tea table-style fish tanks on the market were also referred to as ecological furniture, so we had to rename it “ecological box.” But later, rainforest tanks were also known as ecological boxes, so we now call our work ECORIUM.

ECORIUM showcases a true ecosystem. When organisms and the environment form a complete, rigorous ecosystem, it gains the ability to survive independently—unlike aquariums, rainforest boxes, and the like, which require daily feeding and maintenance. It achieves symbiosis with humans in the built environment. Meanwhile, people can discover from ECORIUM all the ecological laws that are identical to those of the large ecosystem connecting humans and the Earth’s environment. The truth lies within it.

In an ecosystem, all species must be a harmonious part of the ecosystem they inhabit. The same applies to ECORIUM’s work: if placed indoors, it must become an integral part of the indoor environment and evolve into eco-furniture; if placed in a city, it must become an exhibition building—an eco-museum; if placed in nature as a park or tourist area, it is called an eco-world or eco-expo park. It pioneers the overall display of ecosystems.

Introduction to the foundeR

YuWen Shi

Born in 1970, he graduated from the China Academy of Fine Arts in 1993 and was assigned to the Zhejiang Academy of Architectural Design and Research to engage in architectural and environmental design and research. In 1997, he obtained the title of construction engineer. At the same time, he devoted himself to environmental protection activities and prepared to establish environmental protection groups. Since 1995, he has been creating and developing ECORIUM to promote ecological ethics. In 2000, he was responsible for the scientific research project “Ecological Application and Promotion of Building Environmental Water Bodies” entrusted by the Provincial Department of Construction and was one of the pioneers in Zhejiang Province in restoring and reconstructing aquatic ecosystems and purifying water bodies.

In 2002, he began to preside over the design of large-scale aquariums and ocean parks and founded the Cultural Landscape Architectural Design Office. He specializes in the design of marine parks, ecological parks, aquariums, ecological museums, ecological-themed urban complexes, zoos, botanical gardens, and eco-tourism areas with ecological and biological themes, integrating planning, architecture, landscape, exhibition, and ecological design.

Since 2011, with the joining of Ronald Anzenberger, in-depth research and experiments on ECORIUM have been further expanded. From 2020 to 2022, he rejected other business engagements, devoting all his time and efforts to in-depth ECORIUM research and development. This work has perfectly solved all remaining technical problems of ECORIUM, and he is now ready to spread ecological concepts worldwide by popularizing ECORIUM, Ecomuseum, EcoHOSCA, and Ecoworld to fulfill his long-cherished wish.
